Two blokes, naked, on-stage, unpicking the modern masculinity issue.
Albert and Theo call themselves, ‘Caravan Guys’. Two young 25-year old blokes from York and Bridlington who have created a comedy theatre piece based around toxic masculinity.
Albert and Theo met only “a year ago” through mates at “parties”. Both being in bands and having a passion for comedy and music. In February this year Theo released an 11-minute long comedy single titled, ‘Chicken Katsu Curry’. Under the name, Jean Penne. Humour as a way to trap concepts of masculinity, challenging them lyrically in dark comedy. A narrative and context overarching idea of challenging the societal status quo. Lyrics, spoken word, using narrative and perception of masculinity in culture.
Ideas too that are travelled into the Caravan Guys’ show, encompassing the enduring modern narrative of masculinity. “It’s about unpacking each other, me and Albert, the horrible ways men act to each other, competitiveness is a big thing and status” said Theo. The performance provokes an “unsettling feeling” for the audience to watch as they are “aggravating one another.”
